The way the island matured is in part down to César Manrique, who formulated the plan that all buildings should be white, with green windows (or varnished wood), and blue windows if you are facing the sea. |

 Timanfaya National Park is probably the most famous protected area of Lanzarote. There are twelve others, but not all are open to the public. Some sites are so fragile that the Canarian Government is unwilling to run the risk of damage by tourism.
