| Flying To Lanzarote |
| Moving Around |
Spain's airports are all operated by AENA - Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea. Flights are available from Lanzarote to many international destinations. You can also 'island hop' quite economically. The Spanish Ministry of Public Works has just announced a massive improvement plan for this already excellent airport.Lanzarote's airport is not as large as others on the Canary Islands (anyone who has been to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Madrid, Barcelona or Palma de Mallorca will know how gargantuan the Spanish airports can be).
Landing at Arrecife during daylight hours is always a treat, as you will usually fly around the island, before approaching over the sea - offering excellent views of the island. From Lanzarote, you can travel to over 50 destinations on scheduled flights (and yet more with charter flights). The main airlines for island-hopping are Binter Canarias and Islas. For travel to the Spanish Mainland Iberia, Spanair and Air Europa can get you there. Most national airlines will fly at least one service a week to the island.
In the late 1960s, a new terminal was built to handle the rapidly expanding tourist market. This is due to be extended once again in 2008 to cope with the large number of holiday flights Lanzarote airport handles each year.
