Just as London and Amsterdam enjoy calmer weather than their lattitudal neighbour, Moscow, because of the Gulf Stream, The Canaries have their own weather anomalies...

Lanzarote enjoys temperatures averaging 25^oC during August, and 17^oC in January. The average sea temperature all year round is 20^oC.

The climate is regulated by the sea current of the Gulf of Mexico. This influence reduces the heat somewhat - otherwise it would be as hot as the Sahara.

Because it only rains for a few days of the year, yielding around 115mm of rainfall, water is obtained by desalination (of sea water).

So, is it hot on Lanzarote?
