LGBT Groups on the Canary Islands have joined together to call on the Ministry of Health to provide a better service to transexuals on the islands.

Algarabía (Tenerife), Altihay (Fuerteventura), Gamá (Gran Canaria) and Lanzate (Lanzarote) make up the Coalition of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals of the Canaries. Together they have asked the Minister for Health, Dona Mercedes Roldós to pay more attention to the needs of transgender people in our Community.

It's been two years since the groups first met Roldós, to agree a Memorandum of Health Care for Transsexuals in the Canary Islands Health Service. Canary LGBT groups are still waiting the final outcome of this work, and consider it vital to instigate a proper and fair way to treat transexuals, the Canaries are just one of the regions of Spain with more women and transgender men.

The Counselor is aware of the need to advance the health and social policies in relation to trans people, Lanzarote Gay Guide fully support the groups, and hope that one day soon there will be an understandable and co-ordinated policy within the Canaries healthcare system for transexuals.

La Coordinadora LGTB de Canarias pide celeridad a la Consejería de Sanidad ante la realidad transexual.


Los colectivos que integramos la Coordinadora de Lesbianas, Gays, Transexuales y Bisexuales de Canarias, con representación en Tenerife (Algarabía), Fuerteventura (Altihay), Gran Canaria (Gamá) y Lanzarote (Lánzate), solicitamos de la Consejera de Sanidad, Doña Mercedes Roldós, mayor atención a las necesidades de las personas transexuales de nuestra Comunidad.

Pasados ya dos años de las primeras reuniones para consensuar un Protocolo de Atención Sanitaria a Personas Transexuales de actuación en el ámbito del Servicio Canario de Salud, los colectivos lgtb de Canarias seguimos esperando el resultado final de este trabajo en el que hemos participado activamente desde que comenzase en 2007 y que consideramos vital para iniciar un camino adecuado para tratar la realidad transexual en nuestras islas, precisamente una de las regiones de España con mayor número de mujeres y hombres transexuales.

La Consejera es consciente de nuestra urgencia por avanzar en las políticas sanitarias y sociales en relación a las personas trans, y esperamos su atención y colaboración en dar soluciones a esta realidad diaria en nuestra Comunidad.
