A quadriplegic sailor who set off from Lanzarote to sail 'almost' single handedly across the Atlantic is about to arrive at his destination, the Caribbean island of Tortola.

Geoff set off from Lanzarote on his Transatlantic voyage on 10th December last year, and has just reached Garden Bay on the island of Tortola, where he suffered a tragic accident which left him quadriplegic. Returning to this location is completing a circle for him.
Geoff, 42, had limited use of his hands, and used hydraulic technology to control the 60ft catamaran on the 2,700 mile voyage.
The only restrictions were with personal care - Geoff needed help getting himself into bed, dressed, or even into the shower. He was accompanied by Susanna Scott, his care assistant, and a cameraman to document his voyage on the vessell "Impossible Dream".
I had the pleasure of speaking to Geoff by satellite phone at a couple of points on his journey on behalf of the BBC, and know he will no doubt be very very happy to have completed his crossing unaided.
Lanzarote Gay Guide would like to congratulate Geoff on the completion of his voyage, he is now the first quadriplegic to sail single-handed across the ocean. We'd also like to extend our thanks that Geoff chose Lanzarote as the starting point for his iconic voyage.
