Historically the town was a fishing village somewhat stranded at the bottom of the island. It was always a popular place for development though, as the port gives direct links to Fuerteventura. Weather The sun shines almost all year round in Playa Blanca. There is a slight breeze from the Atlantic, which has a wonderful cooling effect on hot days.
Playa Blanca's 9 kilometres of coastline is effectively one large bay which is split up into three beaches. The geography means that the beaches in and around Playa Blanca are well sheltered and ideal for catching some sun or swimming.
