Playa Blanca
Avda Maritima, Playa Blanca
Towards the south of Lanzarote, Playa Blanca is a busy yet tranquil fishing town boasting some excellent scenery, coastline and very clean beaches.

Location

Playa Blanca is situated at the south of the island, about 33 kilometres from Arrecife Airport.

History

Playa Blanca's development into a resort has been fairly recent. Historically the town was a fishing village somewhat stranded at the bottom of the island. It was always a popular place for development though, as the port gives direct links to Fuerteventura.

Weather

The sun shines almost all year round in Playa Blanca. There is a slight breeze from the Atlantic, which has a wonderful cooling effect on hot days.

Playa Blanca, PlayaBeaches

Playa Blanca's 9 kilometres of coastline is effectively one large bay which is split up into three beaches. The geography means that the beaches in and around Playa Blanca are well sheltered and ideal for catching some sun or swimming.

Punto Papagayo is a short distance from the resort, and offers a network of beaches.

Attractions

It is well worth taking a walk along the promenade, which links all parts of the resort, as well as providing some spectacular views across the Bocaina Straits. There are boat trips available from Marina Rubicon, and while you're there you could have a look at Castillo de las Coloradas.

Shopping

Playa Blanca itself has a wide selection of shops to keep you entertained, or you could check out some upmarket shops in Marina Rubicon.

Eating in Playa BlancaEating

Playa Blanca has a wide selection of restaurants, cafes, bars on the beach promenade, overlooking the central Playa Blanca beach.

Being a fishing port, it's a good place for seafood, and of course spanish and canarian dishes.

Night Life

Playa Blanca is more sedate than other resorts such as Puerto Del Carmen and Costa Teguise. It's still a good night out with many bars open until the early hours. As yet there are no gay bars in Playa Blanca, gay friendly bars and clubs at the CC. Papagayo, Playa Dorada are very popular including Wax Bar open until 02.00.

Sleeping

Hotels in Playa Blanca are generally of a much higher standard than other resorts on the island, and there is a very wide selection of private villas and apartments which you can rent.

Transport

Playa Blanca is served by bux Linea 06 from Arrecife, and Linea 13 to Teguise Market. Taxis are in abundance, as with any Canarian holiday resort. It is a short ferry distance with Fred Olsen or Armas from Corralejo, Fuerteventura.
