Puerto Calero
Puerto Calero
Very close to Puerto Del Carmen, yet in a world of it's own, Puerto Calero is a fairly new resort, aiming to offer a more tranquil setting and a jet-set lifestyle experience.

Location

Puerto Calero is a mere 10km from Arrecife Airport, and just a few kilometres down the coast from Puerto Del Carmen.

History

The Marina town of Puerto Calero was the dream of developer José Calero, who wanted a retreat to provide a luxury marina, residential area and golf course for the island. In 1983 he formed Puerto Calero S.A. to create his dream.

Construction began in 1986 and by 1989 the first wave of luxury villas were ready for residents, and the 200 berths became available.

Puerto Calero was so successful that in 1997 a decision was made to double the marina's capacity to 420 berths. The associated infrastructure was also upgraded, so now there are a great many sops, apartments and offices in the town.

Sports

Puerto Calero is the base for many water-sports, including dive schools, submarine excursions and a range of fishing boats which will give you the opportunity to try your hand at landing Marlin and Blue-fin Tuna in some of the best waters you can find. There's no sign of the golf course yet, but there are two very good golf courses on Lanzarote, near Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise.

Puerto Calero CatamaranAttractions

There are several excursions based in Puerto Calero, including Catlanza, whose luxury 74ft catamaran sets sail daily from Puerto Calero.

Whisking you to The most beautiful beaches on the island – Papagayo, where the crew drop anchor to start preparing your lunch - while you lay back, relax and enjoy free drinks from the complimentary bar.

Shopping

Although the shopping area of Puerto Calero is not large, there are many good quality boutiques alongside souvenir shops.

Marina, Puerto CaleroEating

Whilst creating his dream, José Calero didn't forget that he'd need many good quality restaurants! Cat Cafe has the best view over the marina.

Night Life

Puerto Calero has a range of bars, wine bars and the like, it's not designed for the music-oriented nightlife of resorts such as Puerto Del Carmen and Costa Teguise.

Sleeping

The two hotels in Puerto Calero - Iberostar Costa Calero Hotel and Hesperia Lanzarote Hotel, offer excellent luxury, whilst there are many private villas available to rent.

Transport

Puerto Calero is served by taxis, but unfortunately no bus route travels through the town.
